Antalya is a busy port city on the Turkish Riviera. It has some gorgeous architecture, an upbeat nightlife and arts scene and a relaxed feel. It is the jumping off point for trips to resorts along the coast, and has some pretty fine beaches of its own. If you want to take an Antalya windsurfing trip, you’ll be able to choose between some stunning beaches and bays to start it from.
Antalya lies on the curve of a large bay, and is relatively well protected from the wind. That makes it a great place to learn to windsurf, although a less good place for experts to test themselves. There are windsurf schools and hire shops to be found on the city’s beaches and at resorts throughout Antalya province.
The best place to go windsurfing in Antalya is at Patara. This little seaside village is known for its ancient ruins and its wind. It has an impressive undeveloped 18 km long beach that offers some great windsurfing, with both flat spots and some good waves when the wind gets up.
Further along the coast is Alanya, a bustling holiday resort with several great beaches. Damlatas Beach tends to get the best wind, and is popular with surfers as well as windsurfers when the swell gets up.
A little way north of Antalya is Fetiyhe, an attractive cosmopolitan resort with some good wind and waves. It attracts kitesurfers, surfers and windsurfers to its beach, and its easy to hire equipment and get lessons.
Antalya is a gorgeous and fascinating part of Turkey, where modern tourism meets ancient ruins. There is plenty to do and see, but the city and its surrounds have kept their traditional Turkish feel. While it can’t compete with windier Turkish destinations such as Olu Deniz and Alacati, there is some good windsurfing to be had in Antalya.
