The main beach for kitesurfing in Hurghada is just a few minutes south of the town it is very large and has plenty of room for water sports enthusiasts and sun worshippers. With a shallow launching area directly into the perfect flat waters of the Red Sea and the majority of the lagoon only knee to waist deep it is perfect for beginners.
Just 300m off the beach is a sand bar which also acts as a launch area for the more experienced riders. This helps with separating riders of different abilities and creates a superb kitesurfing environment for all. The temperature is anything from 22-35+ degrees so Hurghada Kitesurfing holidays are made more pleasurable by only needing a short wetsuit or Board shorts.
The Magawish resorts are directly on the main 1200m stretch of beach, which is also home to Colona Waterports. This is one of the best Kitesurfing centre’s in the area and will support beginners through to experts with technique.
When and why? – All year round. The wind is stronger through the summer months and in winter the weather is still warm but you will need bigger kites. The wind starts very early in the morning due to the difference in temperature at sea level and higher ground. Katabatic winds flow down to sea level and can blow anything from force 4 to force 8 (14mph to 40mph) in a North direction creating a cross shore wind.
An added bonus is that Hurghada is just a 10 minute taxi ride from Hurghada Airport and flights from Europe take just 5 hours. There are accommodation options to suit most budgets and of the Red Sea kitesurfing resorts Hurghada is the most lively meaning there is plenty to do when you have packed away your kite.
