Iceland’s coastline is bleak, with rocky beaches backed by dark tundra. The wind and waves can both be pretty impressive, though not for the faint-hearted or the inexperienced. The best time to windsurf in Iceland is, naturally, the summer. Even then, you’ll need a heavy-duty wetsuit, or a drysuit.

Iceland is not a place where you’ll find many windsurf schools and established spots. That said, there are a couple of operators offering adventure tours to the country. Otherwise, you’ll need to take your own gear – as some of the sport’s best sailors have found.

Iceland is heaven for wave sailors willing to brave the cold. It has one of Europe’s longest surfing waves and some fantastic conditions, especially on the southern side of the country. You’ll get to ride and jump waves in the shadow of snowy mountain peaks, looking over stunning bays. Iceland is all about raw natural beauty and a battle with the elements. It’s not for everyone – but those willing to take the challenge don’t go home disappointed.

Take an Iceland windsurfing trip and you’ll get to experience some of the most unusual and breathtaking windsurfing anywhere in the world. It is an incredible experience.
