Guide to Lefkada Island rock climbing holidays

Lefkada is an attractive Greek island in the Ionian Sea, south of Crete. It is only just an island, attached to the mainland by a bridge, making it one of Greece’s most accessible islands. Despite this, it is relatively unspoilt. It is a favourite with adventurous travellers looking for something different, including rock climbers, attracted by its rugged and rocky west coast. A Lefkada rock climbing holiday is a fantastic way to get to know the real island.

Much of Lefkada is mountainous, and rocky cliffs line much of its coastline. While there is not much in the way of organised climbing on Lefkada island, there are certainly opportunities to get out on the rocks for those with a little bit of determination and a willingness to explore.

The west and south of the island are the best places to head for climbing, being much less heavily touristed than the eastern strip. Steep cliffs drop straight down into the sea in many places, making good climbing spots. Up in the mountains, you’ll find some craggy spots and rocky ridges to climb.

For more climbing opportunities, try taking a short hop south to the island of Kefalonia. It is a big centre for sea bouldering, with a great jumble of rocks off the beach at the town of Skala. Steep cliffs mean there is also some good deep water soloing on Kefalonia – climbing without ropes over water.

A Lefkada rock climbing holiday is a chance to explore one of Greece’s islands and enjoy some great climbing in the sun. The water is clear, the rocks are inviting, and the welcome is warm…
