Adventure Sports Holidays are delighted to celebrate the success of Snow-Camp’s 2013/14 programme year in which the innovative British ski charity supported over 350 inner city young people (in London alone) through the use of snowsports and life-skills programmes.
With 350 young people accessing snowsports for the first time on the Snow-Camp London course back in the summer of 2013, 60 went on the Snow-Camp Graduate Programme in which they received more intensive life-skill sessions and motivational appearances from inspirational pioneers in the industry. Fifteen of this group then went on to attain the full Snowsport England Level 1 Instructors badge – with three trainee level 1 Instructors also – through Snow-Camps Excel programme.
40 young people, not just from London but from Glasgow also, headed out to Italy in April 2014, gaining their first experience of the mountains in a week long residential. The British ski charity also ran its first ever Snow-Camp Youth Forum trip to Tignes in which fifteen young people still staying involved with the charities work on completion of their courses got the chance to improve their skills, thus becoming stronger instructors.
Snowsports Apprenticeship Programme
Snow-Camp launched its very own Snowsports Apprenticeship Programme in 2013 which enabled four young graduates from the Snow-Camp programmes to join our team in a full-time role for a year July 2013-July 2014. This will be the same in July 2014-July 2015 for five young people who have been through our full journey of Snow-Camp programmes. Keep an eye on Snow-Camps social media channels to meet the new recruits.
Just recently in May 2014, Snow-Camp launched a pilot course at the Cardiff Ski & Snowboard Centre in which 25 young people from Wales got a taste of the Snow-Camp set-up. The charity are also making waves in Leeds/Bradford with a pilot course coming online later this this year out of Sno!Zone Castleford.
As we speak the charity are gearing up for the Summer Intro courses with a new group of between 350 – 400 young people experiencing a skiing, snowboarding and accredited life sills course for the first time over July-Aug 2014 at The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead.
Youth Forum
And last but not least the Youth Forum (in which any young person who has completed the year of programmes can have an influence in the direction of this British ski charity) have been busy volunteering at snowsports events and setting up their own social enterprise designing and selling Snow-Camp sunglasses to raise money for the charity.
