A visit to New Zealand features on many people’s ‘bucket list’, and given the incredible natural beauty of the country it’s not hard to see why. The Whareama Coastal Walk is a breath-taking walk around a section of the North Island’s East coast, providing a perfect example of just how majestic these islands can really be.

Whareama Coastal Walks offer you the opportunity to walk at your own pace, with charming evening accommodation included in the package. You get the chance to meet like-minded people and drink-in the incredible scenery.

Whether you’re looking for a challenge, something stimulating, or a more gentle experience, your hosts will be able to cater the walks around your specifications – something that isn’t always the case on trekking holidays.

The circular walks start at Whareama, located near the beautiful Wairarapa coast. Depending on the length of walk you choose, the route follows farm lanes and fence lines along a well-marked circular track. You get to stop for delicious meals and overnight in some really quaint and clean country cottages. It’s everything a rural walking experience should be.

You’ll definitely need to bring a few things with you, including a sturdy pair of walking boots and stick if you have one. A sleeping bag and pillowcase are also essential (or can be hired), as are a torch, water bottle and waterproofs. In short, everything you would normally need for a trekking holiday, but you walk with only a daysack – we transport your bags to the next cottage. Just don’t forget your camera because with views like this, you’re really going to need it.

All your meals are provided, using locally sourced ingredients and with minimal effort on your part. Enjoy home cooked delights, barbecues and healthy packed lunches for when you’re out on the trail. The cottages have been chosen to provide comfortable but relaxing and peaceful accommodation. Although you might want to bring something a little stiffer to drink in the evenings, to enjoy with your fellow trekkers.

Whareama Coastal Walk

Whareama Coastal Walks are designed to offer tranquillity and beauty in equal measures. Get away from it all in the stunning rural paradise on New Zealand’s North Island. This truly is one of the most beautiful places on earth and what better way to see it than on your own two feet?
