Vietnam is often seen as a country in the fast lane. It is known for its busy cities, speeding bikes, and the legacy of its brutal 1950s-70s war. But get up in the air, and you’ll see a very different side to Vietnam. This is a country of incredible natural beauty, with mountains, river valleys and beautiful coastal bays to fly over. A Vietnam paragliding holiday is all about views!
Vietnam is a long narrow strip of land, with the flat Mekong River Delta at its southern end. As you climb up the country northwards, the landscape is mostly lush green highlands along its western side, flattening down to the coastal strip along the eastern side. That makes it perfect country for paragliders wanting soaring views over coast and mountain valleys.
Paragliding is relatively new to Vietnam, but locals and visitors alike are taking to it like a storm. If you are based in either Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) or Hanoi, you’ll be able to get up into the mountains in a few hours and get flying. Close to Ho Chi Minh City is the romantic mountain town of Dalat – a favourite of Vietnamese honeymooners, and visitors looking for a thrilling ride over the highlands. In the north, the hilly Hoa Binh province near Hanoi has gained a reputation among paragliders after hosting the country’s first paragliding tournament in 2012. For great sea views, head to the city of Da Nang, on the central coast.
Vietnam paragliding holidays are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s easy to see why. You get fantastic landscapes to fly over, and you’ll be visiting an ancient and fascinating country full of interesting sights and welcoming people.
