Kuwait is a small, dry country of cities and deserts. It’s not the first place that most would think of when planning a safari. But for those willing to keep an open mind and with a spirit of adventure, there is plenty to see on a Kuwait safari.
The Kuwaiti desert is very hot and dry. But the desert is home to around 30 different species of mammals, all of them adapted perfectly to their sandy environment. They include red foxes and Arabian gazelles. Take a 4×4 out on a desert safari, or use the more traditional local transport: the camel. Spotting wildlife in the desert can be difficult, but the trip is as much about the overland journey as it is about ticking off animals you have seen. Stay in a desert camp overnight and feel the stillness and quiet.
Kuwait’s desert stretches all the way to its coast. There, you can explore the underwater world in the warm waters of the Persian Gulf. Take a scuba diving or snorkelling trip off the beach to the many coral reefs that lie just off the cost in shallow water. Further afield, dive boats can travel out to deeper reefs, where you’ll find whale sharks, barracuda and puffer fish, as well as many other reef fish. Turtles and rays are also a common sight making Kuwait a decent place for scuba diving holidays.
A Kuwait safari might not be a conventional safari, but it’s definitely one worth taking. Escape the bustle and skyscrapers of Kuwait City and experience the natural world that lies beyond it.
