If you search the internet, you hear rumours of Canary Islands snowboarding holidays. Rumours of riding down a volcano in the lush Canary Islands off the coast of Africa.
A Spanish ski resort on the tropical Canary Islands would be a dream come true! Particularly for sun worshipping holiday makers who fancy a day snowboarding but unfortunately it is just a false rumour.
Guide to Canary Islands snowboarding
The Island of Tenerife with its huge snow capped peak is the only place on the Canary Islands to regularly get snow. So the only place where snowboarding could be possible.
The summit of the Pico del Teide volcano sits at 3818 meters above sea level. But unfortunately rumours of a thriving ski resort on Tenerife are false. There is no ski resort in the Canary Islands.
But that being said, you can still take the cable car up the volcano. And when you reach the top, you can hike to the summit. If there is snow, you can try to ride down.

But most of the time the snow is sketchy at best more rocky than snowy for most of the year. Even after a fresh dump of snow jagged volcanic rocks will be hidden below the surface waiting to wreck your board.
Although a Canary Islands snowboarding holiday is not possible when conditions are right people do get out and shred. It’s not that often but a big dump will lead to suitable conditions. But as you can see in the below video it’s hardly the Alps!
But the canary Islands are a great holiday destination. If you feel the need to travel sideways then perhaps try some of the world class water sports.
Other Canaries board sports
Wakeboarding is considered by many to be similar to snowboarding and is available in many locations. Canary Islands kitesurfing is some of the best in the word and there are plenty of surf breaks due to the regular Atlantic swells battering the shores.
If snowboarding is all you want then spend a week on the beaches on the Canaries soaking up the sun and then head to the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain for a real ski resort. Flights between the two are regular, short and cheap.
