Cornwall’s waves have long attracted watersports fans. The county has the UK’s warmest and sunniest weather plus some of its most attractive beaches. It has always been a favourite with surfers, and for the last few years kitesurfers have been getting in on the action too. A Cornwall kitesfurfing trip offers plenty of opportunity to both beginner and expert kitesurfers.
Conditions for kitesurfing in Cornwall are excellent, and there is a great choice of kite spots. Most of them are on the northern Atlantic coast, which gets bigger waves and more wind than the southern Channel coast. With so many beaches around, there is plenty of space to kitesurf without constantly worrying about other people using the water.
Watergate Bay, at Newquay, is the main kitesurfing hotspot. There are plenty of kitesurf schools around, and the conditions are good for beginners. Depending on the wind, there are usually some flat spots for freestyle, as well as some swell further out. The beach is long and is a good place to get to know other kitesurfers.
Marzion and Long Rock are both on Mount’s Bay in Penzance. They are both great places to learn to kitesurf, and have plenty to keep experts interested too, with both waves and flat water. The views over the bay to St Michael’s Mount are pretty spectacular too.
Hayle, in St Ives Bay, is another lovely spot for views. It got so popular that kitesurfers were banned, but they’re allowed back now to enjoy the water. When the tides are right, conditions can be just about perfect.
Take a Cornwall kitesurfing trip and you’ll get to enjoy conditions that measure up to any in the world. And the beaches are some of the best in Britain too.
