Corralejo is the capital of Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands’ go-to place for watersports fans. The island enjoys long, empty beaches, great wind and waves. It’s popular with surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers, who love the conditions and the laid-back vibe. Take a Corralejo kitesurfing holiday and discover one of the most attractive places around to kitesurf.
Corralejo itself is a busy but relaxed town. It attracts a wide range of travellers, from young families to hardcore surfers. It also has some of the best beaches on the island.
Flag Beach is the main kitesurfing beach in Corralejo, with lots of colourful kites flying above the water and plenty of hire shops and kitesurf schools. It’s popular with windsurfers too: they tend to stay downwind, with the kitesurfers staying upwind. It is a huge, sandy beach backed by dunes, with great views out on to the smaller island of Lobos. It’s a great beach for beginners, but conditions are varied enough to keep experts happy too.
Just south of Corralejo is El Cotillo. This beach makes a good alternative to Flag Beach when the winds there are not strong enough. It can be a tougher place to kite, with stronger winds that can make it difficult for beginners. It tends to get a bit of swell, so it’s good for wave kitesurfing.
Many kitesurfers rate Sotavento as their favourite kitesurfing beach on Fuerteventura. It’s a bit of a trek from Corralejo, but it’s worth the journey. The beach is huge and deserted, the winds are strong all year, and there is a great flat water spot in the middle for freestylers.
Take a Corralejo kitesurfing holiday and enjoy some of the best conditions that Europe has to offer, in a spectacular setting.
