New Zealand is one of the world’s best skydiving destinations. With its dramatic mountain scenery and sparse population, it offers unspoilt views that never seem to end. Jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet has never seemed so appealing as on a New Zealand skydiving trip.
There are locations all over the country where you can jump out over glaciers, deep valleys, mountain peaks and lakes. New Zealand’s countryside is wild and unspoilt. It’s pretty breathtaking from the ground. From the air, it’s unforgettable.
The city is New Zealand’s adventure capital, lying on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, surrounded by mountain peaks. In winter, it is the gateway to the ski slopes. In summer, it makes for perfect skydiving territory: freefall over the aptly-named Remarkables mountain range and the lake.
Near Queenstown, Lake Wanaka is a skydiving favourite. You’ll be able to see over six different lakes on a Wanaka skydive, as well as endless snow-capped mountains, some of which are the tallest in the country.
Some of the best skydiving in the world is to be had at the Fox Glacier. It has been voted the second most scenic skydive anywhere, beaten only by Everest. It is one of the largest glaciers in New Zealand, and is surrounded by lakes and mountains. New Zealand’s highest skydiving is to be found nearby at the smaller, but no less beautiful, Franz Josef glacier. At the top of the South Island you can skydive over the Abel Tasman national park.
In the North Island New Zealand skydiving is very popular from Taupo, this is another dropzone with great lake views but also towards Mount Tongariro an active volcano. There are also a number of drop zones within easy reach of Auckland that offer spectacular views to go with the adrenaline inducing thrill of freefall.
Take a New Zealand skydiving trip and see the very best of this stunning country. If you thought New Zealand couldn’t get more beautiful, try seeing it from the air!
