Guide to Schladming snowkiting holidays

Schladming is an Austrian ski town in the stunning Dachstein region. It has a medieval resort centre, attractive slopes and a good snow record. It is a lively, friendly place to be for the crowds who head there every winter. And, where skiers and boarders go, snowkiters tend to follow.

A Schladming snowkiting trip offers the chance to fly across some stunning Alpine landscapes. Schladming itself is not well set-up for snowkiters. The resort is more about on –piste skiing than off-piste fun, making it difficult to find a spot to get a kite in the air.

The Dachstein Glacier, on the same lift pass as Schladming, is a good spot for snowkiting. It has some nice, big open spaces to ride, and is open in summer for warm-weather kiting!

Near Schladming, the resort of Obertauern has become something of a centre for snowkiting in Austria. It has hosted international snowkiting competitions, and has its own snowkiting school. There is a dedicated freeride area, which is perfect for snowkiting. The resort’s high altitude means there is often snow on the ground between November and May, meaning there’s plenty of time to get there!

A little north of Schladming is Thalgau, home of Austria’s first snowkite park, with its own school and plenty of space to ride. The terrain is varied, with beginners and experts both well-catered for.

A Schladming snowkiting holiday means reliable snow and good conditions. Austrians are getting more and more interested in snowkiting each year. Schladming is well-placed to take advantage of that, being very near some of the country’s best and longest-established snowkiting locations. Enjoy the ride…
