Although the island has perfect water temperatures, wakeboarding in Malta is still a relatively new sport to the island. There are several schools and facilities dotted around the coast.

The O’Neill wake boarding academy has made several trips to the island to send world champions to perform jumps and tricks at the Chilli Beach Festival which takes place in Mellieħa Bay. This combines performances by the experts with other water sports including jet skiing and windsurfing, beach volleyball and a general party atmosphere with music and dancing. While busy during this period there’ll be plenty of opportunities to take to the water behind a speedboat yourself.

Mellieħa Bay offers a large sheltered bay location with several beaches and resorts located in around it. Positioned in North West Malta the bay is popular with those on package holidays, perfect if you want to combine wakeboarding with a family holiday.

The next bay to the East, while smaller, also has an excellent school located in the resort of Xemxija called the Malta Wakeboard School. Xemxija is one of the quietest resorts in Malta so those who prefer a bit of night life should travel here for wakeboarding from nearby Golden Bay or Mellieħa Bay which are more lively.
