For the tenth year, the US destination will be the epi-centre of winter adventure sports action. World champions will compete, stars of slope and freestyle will battle it out, and records will fall.

So what’s happening this year? Well, there’s a new event: Snowboard Best Practice, and a re-launched favourite: Snowmobile Speed and Style.

Aspen will host the Winter X Games

And the snowboard competition will be judged by the public! Yes, text messages and online votes will decide gold after a final-only ten-minute session.

The snowmobile event has evolved into an elimination competition, with riders judged on the time they take to complete the course awarded a freestyle bonus score.

Shaun White, previous winner of 15 X Games medals has confirmed he will be taking part. Can he continue to dominate the Slope Style and Superpipe events? Or is there a challenger to the throne waiting to shine this year?

Heavy snows have encouraged many European winter sports fans to book skiing and snowboarding holidays this year; just be careful not to imitate the freestyle events you’ll see at the X Games -while they make for great TV, the stunts and spins are for professionals only!
