Kitesurfing in Croatia is still fairly new, however the islands just off the mainland have some great conditions. The islands are quite close together which means the wind is funnelled between them creating good wind speed for kitesurfing.
Being in mainland Europe the flight time to Croatia is low so perfect for a short week away. The best airport to travel to would be Split, where you can then get a ferry across to the island of Brac. The kite spot is on the southern side of the island facing across to the island of Stari Grad.
On Brac island you are quite limited to the hotels which are close to the main kite spot but the Zlatni Rat Beach Hotel is the closest. This hotel is fairly priced and is a good base for other activities such as mountain biking, hiking and sightseeing in the picturesque mountains.
You can also fly to Dubrovnik which is further south. From here you will have the choice of the islands of Neretva and Viganj which are just off the mainland. The water at these locations is relatively shallow, which makes good conditions for beginners.
The best time to travel here is in the summer months. During winter the temperature can get below freezing but in summer can be as warm as 28 degrees. It is this warmth which creates the wind as summer sea breezes from the Adriatic are pushed between the islands, giving you more wind than is forecast. For that reason you will be using your 12m kite the most.
